Packaging

The brand's skincare tubes are made with 50% post‐consumer recycled (PCR) plastic, reducing the need for virgin plastic resins. All product cartons and shipping boxes are sourced from FSC-certified paper. In 2023 they became Plastic Neutral Certified by partnering with rePurpose Global to fund the removal of as much plastic waste from the environment as they use in their products and packaging.

Ingredient Sustainability

Jackfir's product formulas are formulated with a high proportion of renewable, plant-derived ingredients, many of which are organically grown or even upcycled. All Jackfir skincare products contain at least 70% organic ingredients, certified to NSF/ANSI 305 standards for organic content. For instance, the Classic Daily Cleanser includes organic aloe, calendula, sunflower oil and other botanicals, and even makes use of upcycled apple extract. The Evergreen Eye Cream similarly contains upcycled white pine bark extract. By incorporating such upcycled inputs, Jackfir reduces demand for virgin resources and gives new life to byproducts that would otherwise be discarded.

Notably, no non-biodegradable microplastics are used: the cleanser's exfoliating beads are made of jojoba esters (biodegradable), not plastic microbeads.

One area for improvement is the use of palm oil in the Bushwhacker Bar Soap. While the palm oil is organic (indicating it was grown without synthetic pesticides), there is no public information confirming that it is sourced under a sustainable palm certification (such as RSPO). Despite that one ingredient, Jackfir's overall material profile is very robust: no petrochemical-derived fillers and a preference for botanical ingredients means most components are renewable and should be environmentally benign at end-of-life.

Energy Use and Footprint

To reduce climate impact, Jackfir directs a portion of all sales to the nonprofit One Tree Planted, which plants trees worldwide to sequester carbon. However, Jackfir has not publicly shared information about its direct energy usage, renewable energy adoption, or greenhouse gas emissions from production. There are no specific emissions targets or efficiencies reported, nor details on manufacturing location or practices that would reduce energy consumption.

Waste Management

Beyond packaging initiatives, Jackfir provides limited information on how it minimizes waste in production and operations. The brand does not describe its manufacturing processes or any waste-reduction practices at the factory level (such as waste recycling, water conservation, or by-product reuse during production).

Notably, as mentioned, Jackfir uses upcycled ingredients. For example, repurposing unused apple parts and pine bark extracts in their formulas, which helps mitigate waste in the supply chain by utilizing materials that would otherwise be discarded.

Business Model

Jackfir's business model reflects aspects of mindful consumption and intentional product strategy. The company offers a tightly curated product range (essentially a few multi-purpose skincare essentials). Jackfir does not appear to chase seasonal trends or excessive product launches; since its inception, it has maintained the same set of five core products.

The entire product line is 100% cruelty-free and vegan, and these claims are backed by reputable third-party certifications. Jackfir is Leaping Bunny Certified.

On the environmental front, Jackfir has integrated charitable partnerships into its business model: notably, it donates a portion of every sale to One Tree Planted. Jackfir's Plastic Neutral certification means it funds projects (in collaboration with rePurpose Global) to remove plastic waste from environments and communities. Beyond environmental charity, Jackfir engages its community of customers through education and dialogue.
