sustainability
details:
Packaging
For online orders, Stasher ships their bags without additional packaging. There is no primary nor secondary packaging. For certain retail locations, packaging is fully recyclable and made with 75% PCR (post-consumer recycled content).
Material Sustainability
Stasher bags are made using silicone. Silicone is made from silica (sand) and hydrocarbons (often from fossil fuels), meaning it has both natural and synthetic origins. It is also more resistant to fragmentation, meaning it doesn't shed microplastics like conventional plastics. In terms of long term durability and reusability, however, silicone is a far superior option to conventional plastics. Stasher bags are meant to be reused indefinitely as alternatives to single-use plastic bags.
Energy Use and Footprint
There is little available information regarding energy use or emissions reduction strategies.
Waste Management
There is little available information regarding waste management in production. Stasher's intent (to reduce single-use plastics) is inherently less wasteful compared to conventional alternatives.
Business Model
Stasher offers a limited selection of bags with little to no product churn or seasonal items.
non-toxic
details:
Stasher bags are food-grade safe and are free from pthalates, BPA, BPS, lead, and latex. Storage bags can be reheated without risks and can even withstand temperatures of up to 425 degrees (f).
social responsibility
details:
Stasher produces it's bag at an SA8000 certified manufacturing facility in China. This allows them to ensure safe working conditions and living wages for those who make the products (with annual auditing). Stasher does not use animal products nor do they create products that might require animal testing.
There is little information regarding ongoing community engagement initiatives.
