Packaging

Cocoon Wrap’s product packaging appears minimal, potentially plain paper or cardboard. Their castor oil is packaged in a glass bottle with plastic droppers, but with no introduction to product refills.

Ingredient Sustainability

The key ingredient is hexane-free organic castor oil, which is a relatively low-impact plant oil. This ensures that the oil is pure and safe for use on the skin. Microwavable gel packs are typically made with synthetic polymers like sodium polyacrylate or propylene glycol encased in plastic or vinyl, making them non-biodegradable and difficult to recycle. While they are reusable and offer convenience, they eventually break or leak, contributing to landfill waste.

The brand also does not currently disclose specific sourcing origins, farming practices, or any third-party certifications to verify sustainability claims.

Energy Use and Footprint

Cocoon wrap is a small-scale, founder-led brand, which typically correlates with a lower operational footprint compared to mass-market brands. Still, there’s no clear information available regarding their energy use and emissions.

Waste Management

Cocoon’s product is designed for multi-year reusability, which significantly reduces waste from single-use heating pads, belly oils, or disposable wraps. However, there is no detail on production waste management or whether remnants, off-cuts, or oil waste are reused or disposed of responsibly.

Business Model

Cocoon Wrap maintains a tight, evergreen product line, primarily the wrap and oil, with some optional additions (e.g.microwavable gel pad).

Although counted as a trend-led item, the brand focuses on ritual-based, intentional use, which supports a slower, more conscious consumption model. But it’s also important to note that Fair Trade-certified castor oils ensure ethical sourcing, which is not present on their website.

non-toxic

Non-toxic
score:
4.0 out of 10

details:

Cocoon Wrap uses a single, high-purity ingredient: hexane-free, cold-pressed castor oil packaged in glass, minimizing chemical exposure. The formulation is free from synthetic additives, preservatives, or fragrances, supporting a low-tox profile. The wrap itself is made from inert materials like cotton flannel and PUL, which are widely regarded as non-toxic.

We have no visibility on whether the wrap is processed naturally or synthetically. The brand does not hold a OEKO-TEX Standard 100 certification (a certified non-toxic processed and dyed fabric certification) which only makes us assume that the wrap is dyed conventionally. We also have no evidence if the cotton material is grown organically.
