Packaging
Beroea’s packaging consists primarily of paper materials for their soap bars.
The bar soaps are also sold in recyclable cardboard boxes or wrappers, avoiding the use of plastic wrapping. Lidded products are packaged with minimal, paper-based materials, but their liquid soaps introduce some single-use plastic. The brand does not advertise any take-back or refill program for packaging.
Ingredient Sustainability
Beroea’s ingredient sustainability strengths are their local ingredients, avoidance of high-impact inputs like palm oil and synthetics, and inherently biodegradable formulas. Their ingredient lists exclude synthetic petrochemicals, plastics, or environmentally persistent compounds. The soaps contain no SLS/SLES surfactants, microbeads, synthetic dyes, or other high-impact chemicals. Instead, they opt for oils, lye, and natural additives. All ingredients are inherently biodegradable.
Energy Use & Footprints
Beroea Wellness is a small-scale operation focused on artisanal production, which inherently keeps its absolute footprint lower than large mass-production brands. Nevertheless, the traditional soap-making process in Aleppo does consume significant energy and water.
The brand relies on a resource-heavy traditional process (heat-intensive soap cooking) and has not implemented known emissions-reduction strategies or reporting.
Waste Management
The brand shows only limited, basic efforts to minimize waste. It largely relies on a low-waste product format (bar soap) but does not have comprehensive waste or circularity programs. There is no evidence of refill systems, take-back programs, or use of upcycled materials that would qualify the brand for a higher score in this category.
Business Model
Beroea’s business model aligns with slow consumption values: small product range, infrequent new launches, durable multi-use products, and marketing centered on heritage and quality rather than trendiness or impulse buys. They encourage consumers to buy natural products when needed, rather than a multitude of unnecessary items.
