Sustainability

score : 4.9/10

Packaging

Seasonly's primary packaging leans on glass. Glass is energy intensive to produce and heavier to ship, but it is endlessly recyclable and does not shed microplastics. Creams are sold in glass pump bottles and the face oils in glass dropper bottles. Secondary cartons are FSC certified, recycled, and recyclable, and the brand has them produced in France, a few hours from its Paris base, which shortens transport distances.

The company has also removed protective inserts from some cartons, dropped plastic from certain lines, and designed cartons that hold together by folding rather than glue, all of which cut material use and improve recyclability. The weaknesses are concrete. Pumps, droppers, and the eye serum applicator still rely on mixed plastic and metal components that are difficult to separate and recycle.

Ingredient Sustainability

Avocado oil, in the Night Oil, is linked to deforestation and heavy water use in producing regions, and Seasonly publishes nothing about where its avocado is grown or whether it is certified.

Soybean oil, in the TensioLift Oil, is a leading driver of monoculture expansion and deforestation unless certified responsibly sourced, which is not indicated. Marula, also in the TensioLift Oil, is moderately sustainable when wild-collected from sub-Saharan trees but is under growing harvesting pressure, so community-verified sourcing matters and is not evidenced here. Sweet almond, present in two of the oils, is notoriously water intensive.

Most striking from an ecological standpoint are the marine-derived ingredients. The Fluid Cream contains Lithothamnion calcareum, or maerl, a slow-growing red coralline alga whose extraction is ecologically damaging and restricted in several jurisdictions, alongside Chondrus crispus, while the TensioLift Oil uses Padina pavonica. Seaweed and algae can be low impact when farmed but harmful when wild-harvested, and no farming or traceability claim is made for any of them. The brand markets heavily on plant-derived content, citing a stated minimum of 95 percent plant-derived ingredients, and on vegan formulation, but it carries no ingredient sustainability certifications such as organic, COSMOS, Fair Trade, or RSPO.

Energy Use and Carbon Footprint

Seasonly's clearest emissions-related decision is to formulate in its own laboratory in the Paris region and to produce its secondary packaging in France, which it cites explicitly as a way to limit transport impact. Keeping production close to its main market does avoid the long supply chains and air freight that inflate footprints, and as a small operation its absolute emissions are likely modest.

Beyond that, there is little to assess. We found no greenhouse gas measurement or reporting, no carbon neutrality or offsetting claims, no disclosure of renewable energy use at its laboratory or manufacturing sites, and no third-party verification of any of the above.

Waste Management

It has reduced packaging material by removing inserts and eliminating glue in some cartons, offers a refill for its eye serum with a reusable applicator tip, and states that it is developing further refill systems. Its product philosophy, which favours multi-function products over long routines, also tends to reduce overall consumption and waste. As a small operation, its production waste is inherently limited, which we weigh favourably given that small brands rarely have large-scale waste infrastructure.

Business Model

Seasonly's core range is largely evergreen: a relatively compact catalogue of cleansers, serums, oils, creams, eye care, and reusable massage tools, marketed around long-term routines and a subscription rather than disposable trend products. The brand explicitly argues for fewer, multi-function products over large collections, which works against overconsumption.

There are countervailing signals, including a steady cadence of launches such as the TensioLift line, the boosters, and seasonal “treatment of the moment” offers, alongside promotional mechanics such as free-delivery thresholds, gift sets, and free samples, and seasonal marketing pushes.

Non-toxicity

score : 7.0/10

The brand publishes an unusually extensive exclusion list that goes well past the typical clean-beauty baseline, banning parabens, formaldehyde and formaldehyde releasers such as DMDM hydantoin, MIT and MCIT, phthalates, all PEGs, EDTA, sulfates, BHA and BHT, ethanolamines including DEA, TEA, and MEA, and contested UV filters including oxybenzone, octocrylene, and homosalate.

Preservation is handled by gentler systems such as sodium benzoate, potassium sorbate, sodium levulinate, sodium anisate, and glyceryl caprylate, and the formulas avoid the higher-risk synthetics associated with irritation, endocrine disruption, or carcinogenic contamination.

Two caveats keep this short of the top of the scale. First, nearly every product contains fragrance, listed as “Parfum,” and declares fragrance allergens such as limonene, linalool, citral, geraniol, and citronellol, which are a recognised sensitisation risk for reactive skin. Second, the Anti-fatigue Eye Serum contains glycolic acid, an exfoliating acid that can increase skin and sun sensitivity and was the subject of a 2024 caution from France's national academy of medicine. We also note that the brand holds no independent safety certification such as Made Safe or EWG Verified. These are modest points against an otherwise rigorous, health-conscious formulation standard.

Social Responsibility

score : 5.2/10

Fair Labor

Seasonly develops and manufactures in France, a jurisdiction with strong, enforceable labour protections, and it is a small operation, both of which weigh positively for working conditions at the point of production. The gap is the upstream supply chain.

The brand discloses little about the conditions under which its raw materials are produced, including plant oils sourced from higher-risk regions, and we found no recognised labour or ethical-sourcing certifications such as Fair Trade or SA8000, nor membership of schemes such as SMETA or the Ethical Trading Initiative. It also publishes no supplier code of conduct or living-wage information

Community Engagement

We found no evidence of a structured community or charitable programme: no disclosed donations, no non-profit partnerships, no percentage-of-sales giving such as 1% for the Planet, and no impact reporting.

Animal Welfare

Seasonly's formulas are fully vegan, and its exclusion list bars all animal-derived materials, including honey and propolis, which is a meaningful and consistent position. As a France-based brand selling into European markets, it is not exposed to jurisdictions that mandate animal testing, and it describes itself as cruelty-free. What is missing is independent verification: we found no certification from the Vegan Society, PETA, or the Leaping Bunny programme, any of which would substantiate the cruelty-free and vegan claims through supply-chain auditing.
