Packaging

Glitss’s packaging appears to be standard plastic containers - plastic bottles for shampoo/conditioner and jars for masks. There is no public information of recycled content, biodegradable materials, or a refill program in use. The brand does emphasize being “eco-friendly,” but this mostly refers to formulas and ethos rather than packaging specifics

Ingredient Sustainability

Ingredient sourcing and environmental impact are strong points for Glitss.

The formulas are plant-based, using renewable botanical ingredients rather than petrochemicals.Their  G-Hair Oil is composed of pure natural oils (coconut, castor, grapeseed, sesame, shea butter, argan, jojoba, sweet almond) with no synthetic additives.  There are no palm oil derivatives mentioned outright, aside from possible presence of plant-based emulsifiers (e.g. cetearyl alcohol, glycerin) which could be coconut- or palm-derived.

Energy Use and Carbon Footprint

There is little public data on Glitss’s manufacturing energy usage or carbon management. As a small local brand, production is presumably done on a modest scale in Lebanon. This local production means products don’t undergo long-distance shipping for the domestic market, which reduces transportation emissions compared to imported products.

Glitss has not announced use of renewable energy in manufacturing or any carbon offsetting initiatives.

Waste Management

Glitss has not shared any specific waste reduction or recycling programs. We do not know if the production facility implements waste recycling, but given the small batch nature of indie brands, production waste (unused materials, etc.) might be relatively minimal or reused in subsequent batches.

Business Model

By being “Proudly 100% Lebanese” and formulating locally, Glitss invests in the local economy and differentiates itself in a market often dominated by imported brands. Products are sold as one-off purchases (with some discounted bundles), and there’s mention of a subscription or repeat purchase option on the site, but no innovative circular model (like product refills or take-back) yet.

details:

Glitss heavily markets its formulas as “clean” and toxin-free. The brand explicitly states “No sulfates. No parabens. No silicones. No mineral oils” in its products, which eliminates several classes of ingredients often criticized for health or safety concerns. No ingredients with known carcinogenic, mutagenic, or high-risk profiles were found in the sampled products as well. By formulating with botanicals and carefully chosen safe synthetics (like gentle surfactants and preservatives), the brand minimizes consumer exposure to harmful substances. Even typical “clean beauty” gray-area chemicals (like phenoxyethanol, PEGs, or cyclic silicones) are absent in these formulations.

The only negatives to note are the presence of allergens: e.g. essential oil components (limonene, menthol in peppermint, etc.) and the use of “fragrance” in one product, which carries slight uncertainty.

Fair Labor

Glitss is a small enterprise operating in Lebanon, and while it does not publish a formal labor policy, there are some encouraging signs. The products are Proudly made in Lebanon implying that manufacturing and assembly are done locally under Lebanese labor regulations.

We have no information on supply chain labor conditions for ingredients – e.g. whether their argan oil comes from fair-trade women’s cooperatives in Morocco, or if their shea butter is ethically sourced.

Glitss contributes to the livelihoods of people in Lebanon. The tagline We don’t just make hair care, we make history.” captures a sense of mission and pride in uplifting local industry.

Animal Welfare

Glitss clearly positions itself as cruelty-free, which is a crucial aspect of animal welfare in cosmetics. In their FAQ, they affirm that All our products are cruelty-free, underlining a commitment to no animal testing. Regarding animal-derived ingredients: Glitss is heavily plant-based, and many products are labeled vegan on their packaging.

The majority of ingredients are vegan-friendly - The one ingredient that stands out is Hydrolyzed Keratin used in the shampoo and conditioner. Traditional keratin is often derived from animal sources (such as sheep’s wool or animal hooves). If Glitss’s keratin is indeed animal-derived, those two products would not be vegan (though still cruelty-free in terms of testing). It’s possible they are using a plant-based keratin alternative (sometimes brands call wheat protein or soy protein “vegetable keratin”), but the wording “Hydrolyzed Keratin” suggests animal-origin unless specified otherwise

Community Engagement

We did not find evidence of Glitss running environmental campaigns, donating a portion of profits to social causes, or organizing community events. They primarily contribute by being an ethical local business and fostering a customer community.
