Packaging
Many products include plastic packaging, with small exceptions of serums packaged in glass bottles. The brand actively encourages reuse by offering refillable jars and bottles at its atelier.
Packaging materials are identified as recyclable on the website (the brand explicitly labels itself “Recyclable”), indicating that customers can recycle what they don’t refill.
Ingredient Sustainability
Ward Joury’s ingredients are largely plant-based, renewable, and sourced with consideration.
The Bye Bye Acne Face Cream formula centers on botanical extracts and vitamins for acne care. It uses plant-based oils/butters (shea, rosehip) and herbal actives (tea tree, papaya). Synthetic content is minimal; ceteareth-20 (an emulsifier) and sodium benzoate (listed as “benzoate sodium”, a preservative) are present to stabilize the cream.
The Olive Oil Soap is made from renewable plant oils and butters, with no synthetic surfactants or preservatives. Importantly, Ward Joury’s soap formula is palm oil-free. The presence of shea butter) and castor oil further supports a, biodegradable profile.
Although the Hair Shampoo is dominantly made from ingredients such as water, glycerine, rosemary extract, olive oil, argan oil & other plant derived surfactants, the presence of zinc pyrithione (an anti-dandruff agent) is a sustainability weak spot. While effective, this ingredient is a biocide that can be toxic to aquatic life if rinsed into waterways.
Energy and Carbon Footprint
Transparency on energy use and carbon footprint is very limited, the brand does not publish any data on its manufacturing energy consumption, renewable energy usage, or greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions. As a small-scale producer (with an in-house atelier, not a large factory), Ward Joury’s overall environmental impact is likely modest.
Waste Management
Ward Joury demonstrates awareness of waste issues, primarily through packaging reuse, but provides little information on manufacturing waste or end-of-life programs. The brand’s refillable packaging program directly addresses consumer waste: by letting customers refill empties, Ward Joury cuts down on packaging that would otherwise become trash or recycling.
Business Model
Ward Joury’s business model strongly encourages “slow consumption” and conscious purchasing. The brand offers an evergreen product line of staples (soaps, creams, oils, etc.) rather than a constant churn of trendy or seasonal items. Ward Joury’s model inherently fights overconsumption: products are meant to be refilled, reused, and integrated into a consistent routine, not thrown away or endlessly added to cart.
