details:

Packaging

Many products include plastic packaging, with small exceptions of serums packaged in glass bottles. The brand actively encourages reuse by offering refillable jars and bottles at its atelier.

Packaging materials are identified as recyclable on the website (the brand explicitly labels itself “Recyclable”),  indicating that customers can recycle what they don’t refill.

Ingredient Sustainability

Ward Joury’s ingredients are largely plant-based, renewable, and sourced with consideration.

The Bye Bye Acne Face Cream formula centers on botanical extracts and vitamins for acne care. It uses plant-based oils/butters (shea, rosehip) and herbal actives (tea tree, papaya). Synthetic content is minimal; ceteareth-20 (an emulsifier) and sodium benzoate (listed as “benzoate sodium”, a preservative) are present to stabilize the cream.

The Olive Oil Soap is made from renewable plant oils and butters, with no synthetic surfactants or preservatives. Importantly, Ward Joury’s soap formula is palm oil-free. The presence of shea butter) and castor oil further supports a, biodegradable profile.

Although the Hair Shampoo is dominantly made from ingredients such as water, glycerine, rosemary extract, olive oil, argan oil & other plant derived surfactants, the presence of zinc pyrithione (an anti-dandruff agent) is a sustainability weak spot. While effective, this ingredient is a biocide that can be toxic to aquatic life if rinsed into waterways.

Energy and Carbon Footprint

Transparency on energy use and carbon footprint is very limited, the brand does not publish any data on its manufacturing energy consumption, renewable energy usage, or greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions. As a small-scale producer (with an in-house atelier, not a large factory), Ward Joury’s overall environmental impact is likely modest.

Waste Management

Ward Joury demonstrates awareness of waste issues, primarily through packaging reuse, but provides little information on manufacturing waste or end-of-life programs. The brand’s refillable packaging program directly addresses consumer waste: by letting customers refill empties, Ward Joury cuts down on packaging that would otherwise become trash or recycling.

Business Model

Ward Joury’s business model strongly encourages “slow consumption” and conscious purchasing. The brand offers an evergreen product line of staples (soaps, creams, oils, etc.) rather than a constant churn of trendy or seasonal items. Ward Joury’s model inherently fights overconsumption: products are meant to be refilled, reused, and integrated into a consistent routine, not thrown away or endlessly added to cart.

non-toxic

Non-toxic
score:
7.0 out of 10

details:

Ward Joury’s products exhibit a predominantly non-toxic, safe-for-humans ingredient profile, using clean natural components and gentle synthetics. We found no high-risk or banned substances commonly associated with toxicity, and the formulas are generally free of the “red flag” chemicals.

The heavy use of botanical extracts, oils, and butters contributes to a safer profile. Ingredients like aloe vera, chamomile (in some products), olive oil, and shea butter are not only sustainably sourced but also dermatologically benign for most people.

The few synthetic ingredients present are generally regarded as safe in cosmetics. One ingredient to note is ceteareth-20 (an ethoxylated emulsifier); while it is effective and typically considered safe, it can carry trace impurities.

Fair Labor

Ward Joury shows some commitment to fair labor principles, particularly through its local production model, co-founder Ziad Chikhani states that for Ward Joury, being a business as a force for good means “fair supplier partnerships [and] transparent pricing” among other things.

However the brand lacks detailed transparency or certifications.

The brand can take a few steps to further prove their fair labor practices by obtaining a fair trade certification for key ingredients & ensuring supplier transparency by listing major suppliers or origins for key materials and how they vet those suppliers.

Animal Welfare

In terms of animal welfare, Ward Joury positions itself as a cruelty-free brand but is not entirely vegan. They are not yet certified by organizations like Leaping Bunny or PETA, but the brand claims “Cruelty Free” status on its site, meaning they do not test products or ingredients on animals.

When it comes to animal-derived ingredients, Ward Joury uses a mostly plant-based palette, but there are notable exceptions. The vast majority of ingredients in the five products we examined are botanical or mineral. However, one product line (the “Collagen” face cream) contains hydrolyzed collagen. Collagen used in cosmetics is typically sourced from animals (either fish collagen peptides or bovine collagen from cow hides). The ingredient list confirms it’s not a vegan collagen alternative (it specifically says hydrolyzed collagen, which implies the real thing).

Community Engagement

A standout aspect of Ward Joury is its L’Atelier workshops and mentorship approach. The brand isn’t just selling products; it’s also creating a space for people to learn about natural skincare formulation.

The brand meets some social responsibility elements but is not extraordinary. Ward Joury clearly cares about its community and operates ethically.
