Sustainability

Packaging

All cartons are made from 100% recycled paper content, with FSC-certified paper sourcing and vegetable-based inks. Primary packaging relies on 100% recycled glass bottles and jars. Glass is indefinitely recyclable with minimal quality loss, and the use of recycled-content glass reduces energy demand compared to virgin glass production. The brand has been transparent that it has not yet found a suitable alternative to plastic caps and pumps (which are necessary for dispensing and preservation), and addresses this gap through its Certified Plastic Neutral partnership with rePurpose Global.

Alpyn Beauty was the first prestige beauty brand to partner with rePurpose Global to achieve Plastic Neutral certification. A percentage of every product purchase is donated to plastic reduction efforts, funding the collection, processing, and reuse of an equivalent amount of ocean-bound plastic waste to the brand's plastic footprint.

The brand partners with Pact Collective to provide a mail-back program for hard-to-recycle items including caps and pumps. Pact charges $5 per return to cover expenses and provides a $10 Alpyn code after returns are received, creating a consumer incentive to participate.

Ingredient Sustainability

Alpyn Beauty's ingredient sustainability profile is a genuine differentiator in the clean beauty space, grounded in locally wildcrafted botanicals from Jackson Hole, Wyoming. The brand's "no-harm harvesting" or "circular harvesting" practice removes only fruits, flowers, or branches while leaving the living plant intact, and returns unused ingredients to the earth (often to the exact location from which they were harvested) to compost naturally.

The formulations demonstrate thoughtful ingredient selection across sustainability dimensions. Sunflower Seed Oil (Helianthus Annuus), Jojoba Seed Oil (Simmondsia Chinensis), and Borage Seed Oil are widely cultivated, low-input, and low-concern. Apricot Kernel Oil (Prunus Armeniaca) in the Melt Moisturizer is a fruit industry byproduct (upcycled). Apple Fruit Extract (Pyrus Malus) and Papaya Fruit Extract are similarly fruit-industry byproducts. Sunflower and jojoba are drought-tolerant, making them climate-resilient choices.

Coconut-derived ingredients (Coconut Alkanes, Coco-Caprylate/Caprate, Sodium Cocoyl Isethionate, Sodium Cocoyl Apple Amino Acids) appear across the line. Coconut cultivation has industry-wide sustainability concerns (monoculture, labor), and no specific coconut sourcing certification is disclosed. The brand uses essential oils (Lavandula Angustifolia Lavender Oil and Citrus Aurantium Dulcis Orange Oil) as functional ingredients in several products, not as added fragrance. Lavender is widely cultivated and generally low-concern; citrus essential oils are byproducts of the citrus juice industry.

Synthetic polymer ingredients appear in some formulations. The Capryloyl Glycerin/Sebacic Acid Copolymer across multiple products is a biodegradable plant-derived polymer used as a silicone alternative. Polyacrylate-33 in the Creamy Bubbling Cleanser is a synthetic polymer. Sodium Acrylates Copolymer in the Survival Serum is similarly synthetic. The brand states it formulates with "non-toxic synthetics that are as biodegradable as possible.”

Energy & Footprint

The brand's hyperlocal sourcing model (ingredients wildcrafted in Jackson Hole, Wyoming, where the company is also headquartered) inherently reduces transportation emissions for raw ingredients compared to globally sourced beauty brands. Products are manufactured in the United States.

The brand states on its Our Beliefs page that it is "always looking for more ways to reduce our carbon footprint,” which acknowledges the goal but does not specify quantified targets or a carbon accounting framework. A small brand cannot reasonably be held to the same institutional climate infrastructure as large conglomerates, but published emissions baselines, reduction targets, or Climate Neutral Certification would strengthen this category.

Waste Management

Alpyn Beauty's waste management strategy integrates several meaningful interventions. The Certified Plastic Neutral partnership with rePurpose Global offsets the brand's plastic footprint by funding the collection, processing, and reuse of an equivalent amount of ocean-bound plastic waste. The "circular harvesting" or "no-harm harvesting" practice at the ingredient level represents a waste reduction intervention at the source.

There’s no production-side waste disclosure (manufacturing waste diversion rates, zero-waste-to-landfill targets, or facility waste audits) and no dedicated refill program for individual products.

Business Model

Alpyn Beauty operates a focused, curated business model with approximately 15-20 SKUs across targeted skin-health categories (hydration, anti-aging, exfoliation, sensitivity, barrier repair). The brand is female-founded, founder-led, and independently owned since its 2015 launch with no disclosed acquisition or parent conglomerate ownership. The hyperlocal sourcing model, Discovery Lab research operation, and Grand Teton National Park Foundation philanthropic partnership integrate the brand's commercial operations with local ecosystem stewardship in a way few beauty brands achieve.

Non-toxicity

score : 9.0/10

Alpyn Beauty maintains a solid non-toxicity profile with a "formulated without" list that excludes parabens, phthalates, polyethylene glycol compounds, sulfates, silicones, synthetic dyes, synthetic fragrance, and phenoxyethanol. Preservative systems rely on Dehydroacetic Acid, Benzyl Alcohol, Potassium Sorbate, and Sodium Phytate (the latter a chelating/metal-sequestering agent rather than a preservative per se). This preservative blend is widely considered safe and is accepted under most clean beauty standards, including ECOCERT. Benzyl Alcohol is a naturally-occurring compound used at low concentrations for preservation; it is generally well-tolerated.

The key non-toxicity concern is the use of essential oils across multiple products. However, the essential oils function as aromatic and functional ingredients and contain naturally-occurring sensitizers (linalool, limonene, geraniol in lavender; limonene and citral in orange) that can cause contact dermatitis and sensitization in susceptible individuals.

Social Responsibility

score : 7.3/10

Fair Labor

Alpyn Beauty manufactures products in the United States, providing baseline labor protections under US federal and state labor law (OSHA, minimum wage, health and safety regulations, workers' compensation). The brand is headquartered in Jackson Hole, Wyoming, where a team of sustainable farmers, botanists, and scientists operate the Discovery Lab that identifies and cultivates wild plants.

There is no published supplier list, factory audit reports, or comprehensive supply chain transparency program. There are no Fair Trade, Fair for Life, or SA8000 certifications disclosed for specific ingredients (shea butter, coconut, mica). For the non-locally-sourced ingredients (shea butter, coconut derivatives, mica, squalane), supply chain transparency is limited.

Animal Welfare

Alpyn Beauty is Leaping Bunny Certified cruelty-free, which is considered the gold standard for cruelty-free certification (more rigorous than PETA certification, requiring supplier monitoring systems, independent audits, and annual recommitment). The brand does not test its finished products or ingredients on animals, and its suppliers and third parties do not test on animals. All products are 100% vegan with no animal-derived ingredients.

Community Engagement

The 1% for the Planet membership commits 1% of all sales (not profit) to environmental nonprofits, specifically the Grand Teton National Park Foundation. The partnership with the Grand Teton National Park Foundation has directly contributed to restoring native sagebrush grasslands in Grand Teton National Park. The Foundation's broader restoration effort targets 4,500+ acres, with nearly 900-1,300 acres directly attributed to Alpyn's support.
